Attachment parenting is not oppressive. Here are some things that are:

Poverty

Patriarchy

Racism

Homophobia

                                                        Violence, domestic and otherwise

                                                             

And here are some things that can make a real difference to the lives of those responsible for the care of young children:

Access to high quality, affordable child care and preschool for all regardless of income

Paid and lengthy periods of parental leave (see Nordic countries)

Changes to workplace culture that recognise, respect and accommodate parenting

Cultural and legal support for breastfeeding (including pumping rooms in workplaces and acceptance of breastfeeding as a normal human activity that does not need to be 'hidden')

Support and value children and those responsible for their care and education

There is so much to fight for. And to fight against. Whether or not I share my bed with my kids or breastfeed is not one of them.
